Explanation of the Data Monitoring Activity
This will give you an overview of the Data Monitoring Activity. For more information on how to use it:

Opening the Data Monitoring Activity
The Data Monitoring Activity was introduced in Version 12.8, in August 2019.
The Activity can be accessed in the same way as all other Activities - from the Welcome Page, from the Activity Launcher or from Activities dropdown list.
Any options will take you to the Data Monitoring Activity.
Expanding the View
Click (top right hand corner) to expand the view and hide the Data Selector and the Filter
Click again to return to the default view
Data Selector
As with most Sigma Activities, the Data Selector is on the left hand side.
The default in this Activity is Item Finder and Periodic HFD Channel
Notifications Tab
The default view is to show outstanding Notifications that are New or In Progress for the last 7 days, with a maximum of 200 being returned, grouped by Strategy
In here, you can:
- Display the notifications that have been created by Sigma to alert you to problems in your data
- A graph to display the Notifications
- Action Notifications
- Work through Notifications
- Ignore Notifications
- Edit Items
- Export the table to Excel
- Refine the Search criteria
Actions
Action | Description |
---|---|
Action Notifications | Opens the Resolve Notifications pop up |
Work Notifications | Opens the Work Notifications pop up to allow you to mark as in progress and enter a sub-status |
Ignore Notifications | Allows you to mark the Notification as ignored |
Edit Item | Opens the Periodic NHD Channel - only available where a single item is selected |
Edit Monitoring Strategy | Opens the Monitoring Strategy Editor |
Export to Excel | Exports the results to Excel |
Notification Filter
Allows you to search for particular Items, Notification types etc.
Filtering by Item
Choose from:
- Use Item Finder
- Select All Items
Filtering by Notification
Filter by:
- Type - choose Data Gap, Overdue Data, Unexpected Data, Fixed Profile or Dynamic Profile or All
- Strategy Name - enter the Strategy Name
- Status - choose from New, In Progress, Closed, Ignored, Resolved, Resolution Error and/or Resolution in Progress
- Sub-status - The list will vary, depending on what has been chosen in the Status
- Created From - add a date
- Created To - add a date
Click to Filter
Advanced Notification Options
Description - add the description of the Notification
Note - add the Note
Data Source - ie, Data Collector or BEMS - choose from the dropdown or All
Click to Filter
Period Dates
Start - add the start date
End - add the end date
Click to Filter
Resolution
Resolved by - who resolved the Notification
Click to Filter
Maximum Results
Use the Slider to change from 1 - 4000 returned results
Click to Filter
Columns
Click on the downward arrow on the Column Header to see all available Columns
Column Descriptions
Header | Description |
---|---|
Item Name | Name of the Channel |
Commodity | Gas, Electricity, Water etc |
Data Type | Usually Energy Consumption for Gas and Electricity, Volumetric Consumption for Water |
Site Name | Name of the Site |
Period Start | Date and Time the Notification started |
Period End | Date and Time the Notification finished |
Priority | Priority as set in the Strategy - Low, Medium or High |
Status | New or In Progress |
Sub-Status | New, Under Investigation, Assigned to Third Party or Pending Resolution |
Impact | The length of the period For example, 2.50 would be 2 1/2 Hours |
Impact Unit | What the Impact has been measured in. For example, Hours |
Created Date | Date the Notification was created |
Strategy Type | Which type of Stategy - Data Gap, Unexpected Data or Overdue Data |
Strategy Name | Name of the Strategy this Notification came from |
Notification Description | The Description held in the Strategy set up pop up |
Note | Any Note added via Work Notifications |
Last Updated Date | Date the Notification was last updated |
Last Updated By | Who the Notification was last updated by, either System or the User |
Strategy Configuration Tab
- Allows you to configure the checks (for example, Data Gaps) to be performed, and the Channels that each check should cover
- Pie Chart to show a breakdown of all Open Notifications
Define new Monitoring Strategies
Edit or delete existing Monitoring Strategies
Assign Periodic Channels to Monitoring Strategies

New Monitoring Strategy | Allows you to add a new Monitoring Strategy |
Edit Monitoring Strategy | Allows you to edit an existing Monitory Strategy |
Delete Monitoring Strategy | Allows you to delete a Monitory Strategy |
Refresh | Refreshes the screen |
Columns
Click on the downward arrow on the Column Header to see all available Columns
Column Descriptions
Type | Strategy Type - Data Gap, Unexpected Data or Overdue Data |
Name | Name of the Strategy |
Description | Description entered when creating the Strategy |
Priority | Low, Medium or High |
Total Notifications | Total Notifications for the Strategy |
Open Notifications | Total Open Notifications for the Strategy |
Status | On or Off |
Adding / Hiding Columns
Click on the downward arrow on the Column Header
Highlight Columns
Tick / Untick as required
